In total 23 students from four different universities are earning an international double degree, an approach led by the Belk College and its global partners, which include:

  • Copenhagen Business School in Denmark: With one year at each institution, graduates will earn a Master of Science in Economics from the Belk College, and an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School.
  • EGADE Business School in Monterrey, Mexico:  Students earn two MBA degrees: one from Tecnológico de Monterrey – Campus Monterrey and another from the Belk College, as well as a certificate in Global Business and Strategy Certificate. Students have the option to study during one semester at the Belk College, and a one-week summer course in Global Competitiveness brings MBA students from both schools together in Charlotte each year.
  • Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (“SUFE”) in China:  With one year at UNCC and two years at SUFE, graduates earn both an M.S. in Mathematical Finance from the Belk College and a Master Degree in International Business from SUFE.
  • Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (“UCSC”) in Milan, Italy: With one year at each school, graduates earn both an M.S. in Mathematical Finance from the Belk College and a Laurea Magistrale (LM) in Banking and Finance from UCSC.

At the welcome reception, Ott shared, “My staff and I know your schools’ leaders personally, and I see them as friends as well as strategic partners. Our schools enjoy a growing relationship that have already made successful advancements.”

The Belk College of Business continues to experience an increasing number of international students who select our programs for their degree. By pursuing an international double-degree with their native university and the Belk College, students can earn two separate graduate degrees from partnering institutions across the globe.

Students in many different countries around the world are learning that the Belk College is a business school of high quality, with top-ranked programs, research faculty and strong connections with the business community. Another attraction is the location. These students recognize that Charlotte is one of America’s fastest-growing, most dynamic business centers. Our city has a highly diversified industry base and a strong economy, making the Queen City a natural fit for a graduate student wanting to study in a different global metropolitan area.  Charlotte also offers a highly-developed and sophisticated international business environment. There are currently almost 1,000 foreign-owned companies in the metro region, with a growing number of international business and cultural organizations. Professionals worldwide are looking more and more to Charlotte as a leader in industry.

At the reception, Steve Ott, Dean of Belk College of Business, recognized the visiting students as those who like to get directly involved and to challenge themselves. “We want you to be involved as UNC Charlotte students and to stay involved long after.  By taking advantage of this international program, you are actively creating for yourself a stronger educational foundation and a personal memory. Congratulations on taking this step,” he said.

Ott summed up the welcome by quoting UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip L. Dubois who had recently shared that UNC Charlotte is "fully committed to a campus culture where our differences are celebrated as part of a vigorous intellectual community dedicated to academic freedom, robust debate and mutual respect.”

Congratulations to these and all international students on this important step in your academic career.
