Program Overview

Developed in collaboration between the Belk College of Business and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Mathematical Finance program at UNC Charlotte provides a balanced approach to broadening your understanding of financial modeling. As a student in the program, you’ll gain a solid background in finance while using your mathematical skills to identify, measure and manage risk.

The Mathematical Finance program is designed to prepare students to pursue financial careers in a variety of industries. Graduates of the program have gone onto careers in investment banking, financial modeling, software development, risk management, trading desk support and portfolio management.

To earn the Master of Science in Mathematical Finance degree a student must complete 30 semester hours (10 graduate classes) of advanced course work and pass a comprehensive exam. Learn more about the curriculum here.

 

Program Outline

The M.S. in Mathematical Finance program is comprised of 30 graduate credit hours: a core curriculum in mathematical skills and financial modeling (18 hours), a concentration to be selected from one of three options (12 hours), and a final, comprehensive examination. 

Flexibility

The M.S. in Mathematical Finance program is structured for both full-time and part-time students. Some of our students attend full-time and finish in 12-16 months. Working professionals who attend part-time usually take 24-30 months to complete the program.

Core courses are offered twice a year at either UNC Charlotte's main campus or The Dubois Center at UNC Charlotte Center City located in the heart of center city Charlotte.

Early Entry
